My practice spans painting, printmaking and drawing. Making is a conversation to me through which relationships are continually formed and renegotiated. Processes of printing, pouring and folding are used to open up the surface to contingency, gestures and the architecture of the image are interrupted and displaced. Varied speeds in the work bring about delayed and unfolding qualities of noticing, that recalibrate my relationship to time, scale and lived experiences.
I’m more interested in how things behave rather than how they appear. My images often slip into the diagrammatic yet are unfixed and excessive, which avoides their completion. Through an attentive approach to painting, I embody the gestures of the tool and follow an action until resonances emerge between texture, colour and form.
I think through the surface as both a space for material to gather and as a site of illusion, seeking out a plurality of dimensions or in-between spaces wound up within the materials and actions, pulling them out to be newly conceived.
